Multi-Grammy award winning artist Alicia Keys is to play the O2 arena in London this May. Ever since her debut album “Songs in A Minor” was released in 2001, Alicia has been a massive international star with a string of best- selling hit records. She has sold more than 30 million albums and 30 million singles and has an extremely healthy repertoire of original material.
It seems only right therefore that such an international superstar should grace the British capital with her talent. This May, Alicia Keys will be showcasing her fifth studio album entitled “Girl on Fire”.
The tickets for the London gig are selling like hot-cakes so you better hurry if you want to go and see this great star play her stuff. The first single off the album bears the same name as the album and the artist performed the track for the first time live at the MTV video music awards in September 2012 to a rapturous reception.
As justifiable as it is that Miss Keys plays in London, it is that she plays at the O2 Arena. This remarkable stadium has become the world’s biggest indoor concert hall, in terms of tickets sold, just beating Manchester’s MEN arena and New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
So who says that the Americans’ always have the biggest and the best? The Arena itself is built within the millennium dome structure and is in effect a building within a building, or at least a building within a tent!
The sound manager of U2, Joe O’ Hirlihy, was consulted regarding the O2’s sound characteristics in an attempt to get rid of some of the typical big venue echo. Many of the pop world’s greats have played at the O2 Arena, including The Rolling Stones, Kylie Minogue (12 times!), Coldplay and Led Zepplin, with their one off reunion gig which received 20 million applications for one concert!
So Alicia Keys will be the next great star to perform at the world’s biggest indoor Arena. Ever since she was very young she was considered to have something extra. This young star has collaborated with many of the biggest names in the industry, including Christine Aguilera, Beyonce Knowles and even sung the “Quantum of Solace” James Bond theme tune with Jack White.
Alicia Keyes followed Lauren Hill in becoming only the second women artist to receive five Grammy awards in one night at the American Grammy awards in 2002 – No wonder Miss Keys’ forthcoming O2 Arena gig looks set to be a sell-out.
