Every now and then a pop group come along who stick out a little more than the rest. There is something about Haim that stands out from other chart toppers and that has turned rock and pop revellers’ attention their way.
The Los Angeles three sister act certainly excelled at this year’s Glastonbury where they pulled in one of the biggest ever ‘early in the day’ crowds at the Pyramid Stage. Primal Scream no less, invited the Haim sisters to sing with them on their iconic ‘Get Yer Rocks Off’ track. If you did not know who Haim were before Glastonbury 2013 you sure did after the festival was over!
If you didn’t fancy tackling the mud and the toilets you can catch the ‘Fleetwood Mac-inspired’ sisters in December at the HMV Forum. On December 9, 2013 Haim will bring their much admired LA roughness and raw power to the Forum for a gig that is selling out like hotcakes.
The HMV Forum, commonly known as the Forum or sometimes Kentish Town Forum is located in Kentish Town. This North London borough has long been synonymous with developing and nurturing musicians and being a hive of live music activity.
Earlier this year music fans couldn’t conceal their sadness when the legendary Kentish Town gig venue the Bull and Gate was shut down. The iconic venue helped launch the careers of some of the biggest names in music in the last few decades, including Nirvana, Blur and Coldplay.
Warmly described by someone in the music business as having the “smell of the gorillas cage at London Zoo,” the Bull and Gate venue closed in May this year and reopened as a pub a couple of months later.
It’s not all doom and gloom however for the Kentish Town music fraternity. With the likes of the Forum, which was built in 1934 and originally used as an art deco cinema, thriving, music fans can still enjoy some raw and authentic live music in this trendy area of North West London. And with the likes of Haim on the roster, Kentish Town’s forthcoming gigging agenda is as impressive as ever.
