Dance Al Fresco made its debut in Regent’s Park in 1998 and has been a much-loved dancing summer feature in London ever since. Consisting of an inner and outer circle, Regent’s Park is the perfect place to hold this spectacular dancing show, with the majority of the dancing taking place in the inner circle.
Much of the popularity of this event stems from the fact that the public play a starring role. Partners emerge on the dance floor, making the moves of their favourite style, be it Latin, Ballroom or the very passionate Tango, to name just three.
To ensure that you won’t embarrass yourselves too much when you take centre stage, dance classes are available on the weekends throughout the event with the highly esteemed Argentine Tango choreographer, Kele Baker giving lessons on Sundays. Beginners can participate in Ballroom or Latin classes on the Saturdays, whilst experienced dancers can join in during the afternoon when the dance floor takes on one huge, magnificent, swirling and graceful mass.
It only costs £10 to participate in Dance Al Fresco 2013 and all monetary proceeds go to the conservation of Regent’s Park. One improvement to the park that the proceeds of this popular summer event will go towards will be contributing to the scores of new trees that are to be planted in the park this year.
The shows are free for spectators, whom will have the additional excitement of being able to witness professional dancers, such as Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace, grace Regent’s Park with their presence.
This is a festival for the public and the emphasis is very much on participation with a few special highlights thrown in the mix.
If you are in any way interested in dance then a trip to Regent’s Park this July is simply imperative. In fact whether you intend to watch this dancing bonanza or not, a visit to this beautiful green open space, where our very own King Henry VIII used to go hunting for game, will warrant a great day out for couples, families, or for those wanting to seek some solitude from the hectic and fast-paced streets of London.
Dance al Fresco 2013 will be taking place in Regent’s Park for the whole of July 2013.
