Since the days of the Brixton riots, Brixton gained a reputation for danger that it has found hard to shake off. Today however, the south London suburb is a melting pot of people from different ethnic backgrounds and cultures and has become a cosmopolitan and culturally-enhancing place to live and visit.

Being home to the Brixton Academy, Brixton has a lively, music-orientated scene and is particularly appealing to young and open-minded individuals. Increasingly businesses are recognizing the growing popularity of Brixton and as a consequence new businesses are establishing themselves in this interesting, multi-cultural and chic London suburb.

One such business is the Etta’s Seafood Kitchen located in the heart of Brixton’s village. The ’s colourful and lively chef Etta Burrell, epitomizes the refreshingly young and avant-garde vibe Brixton asserts on south London, not to mention the food she serves her customers, which, with a Caribbean twist, provides an energizing, sophisticated and ‘different’ taste.

The fresh seafood dishes Etta creatively conjures up are reasonably priced – another favorable trait of Brixton, compared with some of the extremely expensive restaurants in the City. The ambience inside Etta’s Seafood Kitchen lacks pretension, like does Brixton in general. Instead the restaurant creates a homely ‘kitchen’ atmosphere, with quirky and interesting novels, paintings and poetry speckled across the tables and on the walls.

It is the perfect ambience for tucking in to a great, fresh, homemade plate of seafood cuisine, with a taste of the Caribbean before getting anything you may have on your chest, off your chest – just like being at home. And that is exactly the atmosphere Etta Burrell has strived to create, because as well as serving up top-notch cooking at more than respectable prices, the vibrant chef offers customers advice about life and relationships, as well as dishing out her sought-after recipes – A real mother pearl on the doorstep of lucky ‘Brixtoners’!

Etta’s Seafood Kitchen is open daily between 11.00  – 18.00 and until 22.00 on Thursdays
