The hotel has recently undergone major renovations, including the opening of the Grand Ballroom, and bespoke penthouse suites, and will be unveiling its new restaurant and spa in the coming months. But the renovation is more than skin deep: it has also given the Wyndham Grand the opportunity to make changes and further improve its green credentials, and has inspired changes across the business.

The Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) is the national sustainable tourism certification scheme for the UK and recognises the need for such a major British industry to celebrate successes in sustainability. The Wyndham Grand was assessed against a rigorous set of over 150 criteria, covering major indicators of sustainable business activity including energy and water efficiency, purchasing systems, and social responsibility and communications.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, The Wyndham Grand recently participated in Earth Hour on 27 March 2010 joining millions of business and individuals in the great switch off, pledging support for the planet in the fight against climate change. The hotel also organised a Thames clean-up event in 2009, with 25 staff participating in the event and will be organising a community event in 2010, as part of their commitment to sustainability.

“We are thrilled to have been awarded Silver honours by the GTBS for our accomplishments at the Wyndham Grand,”

Explained Michael Schaefer, General Manager of the Wyndham Grand, London Chelsea Harbour.

“We are committed to making our hotel as sustainable and responsible as possible, and this award is a fantastic recognition of how we have combined luxury accommodation with environmental responsibility.”
