Raise money for breast cancer with the London Moonwalk 2011

On May 14, powerwalkers will raise money for breast cancer with the London Moonwalk 2011.

Hyde Park will attract power walkers of all ages and abilities to its fragrant springtime grasslands, as thousands of like-minded people enjoy getting some great exercise whilst raising money for breast cancer awareness.

Organised by the ‘uniting against breast cancer’ charity organisation Walk the Walk, The London Moonwalk 2011 is now in its 14th year and is growing in popularity and prominence each year, with this year promising to attract more than 15,000 participants.

With this year’s theme being ‘walk on the wild side’, bold, bright and colourful is the name of the game with the 2011 London Moonwalk, with power walkers encouraged to dress up in outrageously gaudy and daring outfits, to help ensure the event is even more memorable.

Power walking to promote breast cancer awareness first came into existence in 1996, when just 13 women power walked in the New York marathon in only their bras to raise money for breast cancer.

In 1998 the charity was officially set up and ever since the first Moonwalk graced London with its presence, more than 250,000 people have participated in the London Moonwalk, with the popularity of the event stemming from the fact it is the world’s only power walking marathon.

Entries are now closed for the popular Moonwalk event but if you are interested in raising money for Walk the Walk this year, the Sunwalk is also coming to London. On 24 July 2011 fundraisers have the opportunity to take part in a 5k, 10k or half marathon walk beginning in Battersea Park to raise money for breast cancer. With the theme being ‘Wild West London’, the event promises to be a particularly wild one.
