On Monday 10th May 2010, the Royal Albert Hall will play host to a concert to mark the 65th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.

Albert-Hall
This event will raise money for the British Red Cross. The commemoration will be attended by VIP guests including members of both the British Royal Family and the Russian Presidential Administration, making this a bit of a regal spectacle.

A programme of popular classics and war time favourites will revisit spring of 1945, set against an atmospheric backdrop of specially created pictures and images. Alongside all the nostalgia, there will be plenty of contemporary music to enjoy too – as a fusion of music and cultures come together on stage to pay tribute to the Great Victory.

The line up will include performances by some prominent rock acts, Jethro Tull and Rick Wakeman, as well as “The People’s Tenor” Russell Watson and actor Jeremy Irons. The programme will also feature performances from the Alexandrov Red Army Choir, folk diva Nadezhda Babkina, one of the most popular singers across the former USSR Tamara Gverdsiteli, rock star Alexander Marshall, the young but already acclaimed Kvatro group, the artist Xenia Simonova  and Russia’s own version of Sinatra – Iosif Kobzon.

The event will recognise the feat of the Allies and their resistance movements 65 years ago, as well as marking the close relationship between the British Red Cross and Russia. War veterans from Russia, USA and UK will also be attending.
