The Battersea Park Santa Run 2013– Kick start the festive season with some truly charitable fun! Saturday December 7, 2013 will see Father Christmases galore descend upon Battersea Park in one giant swathing mass of red and white as a myriad of modern day Santa’s lock horns and race each other around the park.
No sledges pulled along by reindeer will be allowed in this Santa gathering as the jolly Father Christmases will have to propel themselves by foot power alone.
Asides getting right into the festive spirit at the beginning of the advent calendar, the Santa Run gives participators and sponsors the opportunity to help those less fortunate – a sentiment that seems to have been somewhat lost down the years at Christmas time. After the ‘race’ there will be mulled wine and Christmas cake to replenish and refresh the goodly Santas who will have kicked off the festive month in a truly charitable spirit, an example to us all as to what Christmas should really be about.
The proceeds of this popular charity event will go towards Homestart, which aims to give children the best possible start in life. The registration fee for adult runners is £20 with a minimum sponsorship of £75. Children who wish to run as Santa can register for £10 and must have £25 worth of sponsorship. Santa outfits will be provided by the organisers.
Visiting Battersea Park is a pleasure in itself even when highly entertaining events aren’t being held. Situated just opposite Chelsea on the south side of the river this 200-acre site is a haven for peace and tranquillity. The park’s ample water and beautiful boating lake sees wildlife thrive. There is a play area for children and even a zoo. In fact when engrossed in the equanimity of Battersea Park you’d be forgiven if you had to pinch yourself to remind yourself that you are in one of the world’s most bustling cities.
Tranquillity however is not an option in Battersea Park on December 7, 2013 when umpteen Santas take to its paths.
