Founded in 1932, the world famous London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) has toured extensively and thrilled audiences all over the world for decades. This legendary orchestra has played on some major movie scores, including, “Lawrence of Arabia” and, more recently, “The Lord of the Rings.”
The LPO is currently celebrating its eightieth anniversary, and can be seen live at London’s Southbank Centre’s ‘Rest Is Noise’ festival until Friday 17th May, 2013.
Conducted by Vladimir Jurowski, the LPO will be performing some thought-provoking music based on Alex Ross’s book, “The Rest Is Noise.” This festival of music charts key moments of musical history throughout the last century. The theme of the concerts is to be aptly based on war and peace and will include some rare pieces by the iconic composers, Zemlinsky, Schoenberg, Shchedrin and Kurt Weill.
One of the main highlights of the festival promises to be when the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Russian National Orchestra join forces and play a concert together dedicated to awaken the emotions of war and peace.
Although with the whole event musically depicting how all manner of music during the last century has been influenced by war and political upheaval, the Rest Is Noise promises to evoke emotion in all who see it.
The London Philharmonic Orchestra will be the backbone of this music festival, playing around 30 concerts in total. If ever there was a better chance for Vladimir Jurowski to show us all what he is made of than it at the Rest Is Noise festival in May!
Situated on the South-side of the river Thames, the Southbank Arts Centre was established in 1951 for the Festival of Britain.
